Your privacy
Here, in plain words, is what FunctionalHealth keeps about you on this platform, why we keep it, which companies help us, and how you stay in control of it.
What we keep in your account
When you make an account, we keep:
- Your email address and sign-in details, and the date you agreed to our terms.
- Your name. It appears on anything you post in the community.
- The program you chose and the answers you gave when you started. These include your recovery stage, what matters most to you, how short of breath you get, how active you are, safety notes such as using oxygen or having a pacemaker, whether your doctor has cleared you to exercise, and a few other intake questions.
- What you log: daily check-ins and any symptoms you report, numbers such as blood pressure, your sleep diary, your medicine list, and the sessions, habits, and checklists you finish.
- Library items you save, and your posts, comments, and likes in the community.
- Whether you turned on the newsletter, and a simple count of how often you use a few features, such as Sage, so the service does not get overloaded.
We use this to build your daily program and to show you your progress. If you came from the quiz on our main site, your answers, first name, and email came with you, and so did the names of any medicines you saved there. Before your first session, we show you those medicine names and add them to your list when you tap "Save to my record." If you already have an account and your medicine list is empty, they are added for you.
Who can see it
Your records are private to your account. Our database is set up so that each member can read only their own records. The one exception is the community: your posts and comments, with the name on your profile, are shown to other signed-in members.
About Sage, our AI coach
Sage is an AI helper, not a doctor. When you write to Sage, your messages go to our AI provider, Anthropic, the company that makes the Claude AI, so Sage can reply. To help Sage fit its replies to you, we also send your first name and a short summary of your program: the condition and stage you chose, what matters most to you, the safety notes from your intake, how many sessions you have finished, how your check-ins went this past week, and any warning signs from today's check-in.
Sage writes its own answers, so it can be wrong. It can't diagnose or treat anything. For questions about your symptoms, your medicines, or your treatment, your doctor is always the right place to turn.
We don't save your Sage chats in your account. Today's chat is kept in your browser on this device, for your account only, so you can scroll back. Sage starts fresh each day, and the chat is removed from the device when you sign out.
How we count visits
We use PostHog to learn how the platform is used. It records the pages you visit and a few steps, such as making an account and finishing a session. Some of these records include the program you chose. PostHog doesn't record your screen, your taps, or anything you type, and it doesn't use cookies. It keeps a random ID in your browser's storage instead.
Before anything goes to PostHog, we remove names, email addresses, and medicine names from page addresses. Some page addresses still include quiz choices, such as your recovery stage, and PostHog can see those. If you came from the quiz on our main site, the same random ID links your visits on both sites.
Vercel, the company that hosts the platform, also counts page visits with Vercel Web Analytics. It doesn't use cookies.
The newsletter
We add your email to our newsletter, which Beehiiv sends for us, only when you turn on "Recovery newsletter" under "Mail and updates" on your profile page. Turning it off takes you off the list. If you took the quiz on our main site, your email was already added to the newsletter list when you finished it. Every newsletter email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
Companies that help us
- Supabase stores your account and records, runs sign-in, and sends password-reset and sign-in-link emails.
- Vercel hosts the platform.
- Anthropic runs the Claude AI behind Sage.
- PostHog and Vercel Web Analytics help us count visits, as described above.
- Beehiiv sends our newsletter, if you turn it on.
- Mux streams our exercise videos. We have turned off its viewer tracking and its cookie.
- The U.S. National Library of Medicine suggests medicine names when you search for one. It gets the letters you type, not your name or email.
We also use cookies to keep you signed in. Each company gets only what it needs to do its job for us.
Saved only on this device
A few things are saved only in your browser on this phone or computer, not in your account: today's Sage chat, your emergency card, the questions you write down for your doctor visit, and a few settings, such as whether the narration voice is on. They stay there until you clear your browser's saved data. Signing out also removes the Sage chat.
What we don't do
We are not your medical record. We don't hold your test results, your scans, or your doctor's notes. Those stay where they belong, with your care team.
And we never sell your information. We don't run ads, and we never share your information with advertisers, sponsors, or insurance companies.
Yours to keep, share, or delete
Everything you log here is yours. On your profile page, in the section called "Your data," there are two buttons:
- Download my data gives you one file with your profile, logs, and posts.
- Delete my account erases your account and everything stored in it, including your community posts. You type DELETE to confirm. This can't be undone.
The same section has "Prepare for your visit," a one-page summary you can print and bring to your next appointment, so your doctor or care team can see how things have been going in your own words.
Deleting your account does not take you off our newsletter. To stop the newsletter, use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any newsletter email. Things saved only in your browser stay there until you clear your browser's saved data.
Questions? We're here
This platform is for adults 18 and older. If you ever want to know what we hold, ask us to delete your account, or just have a question, write to us at hello@functionalhealthresearch.com. A real person will read it and help.
